WWE has had to deal with a long series of shakeups in recent years. The tremendous effects of the global pandemic and the sensational retirement of Vince Mcmahon have turned the cards on the table, as well as having represented a great opportunity to renew a now stale product.
Vince decided to step aside last July, thanks to the advancing age and the serious allegations of misconduct that emerged following an investigation by the Wall Street Journal. Vince's place was taken by his daughter Stephanie and Nick Khan, while Triple H became the new head of the creative team.
The 14-times world champion didn't hesitate to make some radical changes to the shows, proving that he has a very different vision from that of his illustrious predecessor. The Game also brought back several stars who had been released during the pandemic to the company, including Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Johnny Gargano and Karrion Kross, not forgetting the very welcome return of JBL to Monday Night Raw.
Bray Wyatt is a true champion
It is undeniable that one of the highlights of 2022 was the return of Bray Wyatt in the final juncture of Extreme Rules. 'The Eater of Worlds' had been released in July 2021, a decision that had left both fans and insiders stunned.
During the Wells Fargo 2022 TMT Summit, Stephanie Mcmahon said that SmackDown's ratings increased by 20% thanks to the return of Wyatt. “It's no secret that a lot of people were eager to see Bray Wyatt back in WWE. We used a multi-media approach and hired a writer who specializes in horror to help us create that narrative.
Our fans went into raptures. The episode of SmackDown following the PPV Extreme Rules had crazy ratings” – revealed Stephanie. There are rumors that there will be more big returns in 2023. WWE has already been sounding the availability of legends like The Rock, John Cena and Stone Cold Steve Austin for WrestleMania 39.
Speaking of WWE legends, Matt Hardy is someone who is no stranger to Bray Wyatt. “He’s such a unique character too. There’s so many idiosyncrasies with everything he does. So you really have to–the devil’s in the details.
You really have to pay attention to the details. Bray’s good at that. Hopefully with Triple H behind the helm now, he’s going to stay on top of it too." On this week's SmackDown, Wyatt made his first post-Extreme Rules appearance.
