Several days ago, it was announced that Cody Rhodes will make his WWE return at the Royal Rumble. The first big PPV of 2023 will be held on Saturday January 28 in San Antonio and promises to give many emotions. This announcement was received very positively by the WWE Universe, but some wondered why the company did not keep the news of his return a secret.
'WrestleVotes' tried to answer this question: "We asked a source close to the company why they announced the return of Cody Rhodes so early. We were told that there are essentially two reasons: on the one hand, everyone knew that Cody's return was imminent, on the other, WWE is already more than satisfied with the surprises it has in store for the Royal Rumble".
Recall that 'The American Nightmare' has not set foot in the ring since Hell in a Cell 2022, having torn his pectoral muscle.
New details on Cody Rhodes' return
Cody Rhodes' return to WWE after six years was one of last year's highlights, especially considering that Rhodes was one of the founders of All Elite Wrestling in 2019.
The 37-year-old from Marietta immediately proved to be one of the best performers around and has expressed his desire to become world champion in the near future. In the latest edition of 'Legion of RAW' on Sportskeeda, former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo revealed what he expects from Cody's return.
“I don't think Cody Rhodes will win the Royal Rumble match” – Russo began bluntly. “I think WWE wants to bring him back to boost ratings, but he's going to have a lot of rust on him. He hasn't wrestled in several months, so they're going to give him some time before re-elevating him.
Whoever eliminates Cody at the Royal Rumble will likely start a feud with him in the following weeks. Rhodes will be able to get rid of the rust and then he will compete for the world title” – added Vince. Former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree recalled how Cody Rhodes was entitled when the two met for the first time.
"I remember Cody Rhodes one time spotted off like yeah second generation guys don't get along and I'm thinking what the f**k do you know about that. My days with Cody were different with other people because when I first met him like, entitled? like a hundred and f**king percent right...
He got hired, no experience, no nothing, he was 21, he was trying to be an actor in Hollywood."
