Update on Ronda Rousey's status

Tomorrow, January 28, 2023, the whole world will prepare for one of the most loved WWE events in history, namely the Royal Rumble, starring as always the two matches that give the Premium Live Event its name, which will see 30 men and 30 women collide inside of the square, with the last ones standing inside will have the chance to challenge a champion of their choice at WrestleMania 39.

As announced a few days ago here on our site, WWE would have decided to exclude Ronda Rousey for the female Royal Brawl since for some time there have been no concrete plans for her inclusion, words written by the well-known site Fighftul.

In a recent update from Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter, (subscription required), transcribed for us by Wrestle Purists, the official reason for this choice appears to have been revealed, with the reporter saying: “Ronda Rousey will not be in the Rumble (or at least that was the mid-week decision) due to the feeling that they didn't want to marginalize her star power by being just someone in the match since she wasn't going to win or be the focal point."

Backstage details on Ronda Rousey

Recently, Jim Cornette commented on Ronda Rousey's title loss to Charlotte Flair saying, “If Ronda Rousey didn't have the name and reputation she had from the MMA or UFC world, she wouldn't be on television.

There's Charlotte, a star, and then there's Ronda. Let's hope this is the end of Rousey's experiment. Ronda Rousey wanted to be a wrestler until she got a taste of it. She wasn't even a full-time wrestler. The first run, okay. She then she goes to have children and raise goats.

And I'm not even kidding folks." Mark Henry said that he was eagerly waiting for Ronda Rousey to return to a WWE ring and compared her transition into pro wrestling to that of Kurt Angle: "I can't wait. I pray in my prayers every night.

I pray that Ronda Rousey comes back to wrestle, man. I hope she does. If anybody knows Ronda, please tell Ronda to come back to wrestling. I mean, that was the best part of watching last year's Wrestlemania, was to see her development.

[It was] the BEST beginning in pro wrestling I ever saw. Nobody's ever-- Kurt Angle, but Kurt had a year to wrestle, wrestle, wrestle before everybody saw who he was. Ronda? Her first match was a pay-per-view, just like mine was."
