Cody Rhodes made his big WWE comeback at WrestleMania 38, to the amazement of fans as he was one of the founders of rival company, All Elite Wrestling, but his history with the McMahons really goes back many years, when in 2006 he decided to sign with them starting from Ohio Valley Wrestling following in the footsteps of his legendary father Dusty Rhodes.
But then something in him changed, he got tired of staying in WWE where the company gave little value to his enormous work and finally in 2016, after some titles won, several prominent rivalries and several gimmick changes, he left the company.
Speaking on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast, he recounted why he initially decided to leave WWE: "Stardust is the reason I left. So actually the story was that I've been with WWE since I was 19 and it was sort of an inheritance take.
They knew he was Dusty's son and that opened the door for me. And then the hard thing is being second or third generation once the doors open, once you get that special treatment here, now your expectations are through the roof.
I wasn't ready for those expectations, I was slow to learn all of this."
Cody Rhodes is a true champion
In his latest interview released to the microphones of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, in the Broken Skull Session column, The American Nightmare wanted to reveal the reason that prompted him to leave AEW in 2022 to return to WWE: “In the end, the bottom line is that she was my baby, she grew up [AEW ed] and people still had a good time, even without me.
Because I thought, that she didn't need me anymore…but I didn't I'm completely honest, maybe he still needed me, but this is what I needed." Having been a part of the wrestling business for more than 15 years, Cody Rhodes has faced the best of his generation.
"I mean, this is Seth who, he’s won every title known to man. He’s in my book. I have my three top wrestlers and I try not to be in just our WWE bubble. I tried to look everywhere, and I’ve wrestled everybody.
I think he’s, I always say he’s top three. He’s incredible, unreal. I gotta finish the story. For those who don't know, 1978, my dad won the WWE title, but it was by over the top rope or disqualification is how he won the match." Rhodes added: "I had that picture and that was my first dream ever, like, I'm gonna get it to him. I have the belt too, the original one."
