Nikki Bella Discusses Resentment Towards WWE Over Total Divas' Success

Nikki Bella, a former WWE wrestler now a reality TV personality, recently revealed that she felt hostility from the organization due to the popularity of Total Divas, a reality series that tracked the lives of female WWE wrestlers.

Despite the show's excellent ratings, Nikki said in an interview with Renee Paquette on The Sessions that WWE was not a fan of their success in reality television. Nikki claims that after accepting the Diva of the Year award, she and her twin sister Brie were screamed at in the rear.

She thinks that WWE was unaware of Total Divas' success, which was almost as famous as the Kardashians at its height. Nikki also voiced her displeasure with WWE's dominance of the business and their promotion of particular wrestlers as fan favorites.

She thinks they utilized the show's popularity to turn against the Bellas and that Total Divas was the first item they could not control.

The Bellas' Continued Success Outside of WWE

Nikki and Brie persisted in pursuing their reality TV careers despite the lack of assistance from WWE.

Their spinoff program, Complete Bellas, explored their private lives away from the ring, starring them. Also profitable, the program ran for six seasons, with Nikki serving as executive producer. Since then, Nikki has worked on various other projects, including presenting her reality series, Nikki Bella Says I Do, and serving as a judge on America's Got Talent.

However, she is thankful for her time working for the WWE and the honor bestowed upon her and her sister as they were elected into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2020. The animosity Nikki harbored for WWE is not unusual in the entertainment business, where success is occasionally met with opposition from those in positions of authority.

Nikki's experience, however, highlights the challenges faced by female wrestlers who want to become more than merely ringside performers. Unfortunately, WWE did not fully capitalize on the success of Total Divas and Total Bellas, which provided female wrestlers with a platform to showcase their personalities and lives outside of wrestling.
