His alliance with The Judgment Day led to a betrayal of their former leader, Edge, setting the stage for an ongoing rivalry between the two. The feud between Edge and Balor escalated at Elimination Chamber, where Edge and his wife, Beth Phoenix, emerged victorious in a tag team match against Balor and Rhea Ripley.
Initially, however, the conflict between Balor and Edge was intended to take a more sinister turn. In December, a report indicated that a Hell In A Cell match between the two superstars was slated for the Royal Rumble event.
