World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has revealed plans for a new NXT Premium Live Event (PLE) called NXT Battleground, set to take place on Memorial Day weekend in May. This announcement comes as the latest move in the ongoing rivalry between WWE and Tony Khan's All Elite Wrestling (AEW), as the event is scheduled for the same day as AEW's Double or Nothing pay-per-view (PPV).
According to the official WWE website, NXT Battleground will be held at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Sunday, May 28, with tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, April 1. Fans can purchase tickets via the Tsongas Center website at http://www.tsongascenter.com/.
This event marks a milestone for WWE's NXT brand, as it will be the first time an NXT PLE takes place in Massachusetts and only the second time since February 2020 that a stand-alone NXT PLE is hosted outside of Florida.
The previous event, NXT Vengeance Day, was held at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. NXT Battleground promises to showcase the top NXT Superstars in action, featuring names such as NXT Champion Bron Breakker, North American Champion Wes Lee, NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez, Carmelo Hayes, Tiffany Stratton, and many more.
WWE Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, Shawn Michaels, expressed excitement about bringing NXT back on the road and delivering an unforgettable experience for fans in Massachusetts and those watching at home.
The event will be streamed live exclusively on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network for international viewers. More details about the event will be revealed in the coming weeks.
WWE-AEW Showdown Continues
It's worth noting that NXT Battleground is slated for Sunday, May 28, just one day after WWE's main roster presents the King & Queen of the Ring event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
With WWE choosing to run NXT Battleground on the same date as Tony Khan's ROH PPV last December, it's clear that the stage is set for another head-to-head showdown between WWE and AEW. As wrestling fans eagerly await both events, which promotion will come out on top in this latest chapter of WWE vs. Tony Khan, the AEW rivalry remains to be seen.
