As WWE Hall of Famer Edge approaches the twilight of his illustrious in-ring career, rumors are swirling about a possible reunion with a familiar face from his past. At WrestleMania 39, the 49-year-old superstar was involved in a grueling Hell in a Cell match against "Demon" Finn Balor.
This brutal encounter marked the climax of a ten-month-long storyline where Balor and The Judgment Day ousted Edge from the group he had formed. Despite his age and a near-decade-long hiatus due to a severe neck injury, Edge put on a memorable performance, defeating Balor, who suffered a significant head injury during the match.
After receiving 14 staples to his head, Balor is on the road to recovery. Edge's incredible journey, which saw him return to WWE at the 2020 Royal Rumble after a miraculous recovery, has been awe-inspiring. As he inches closer to his 50th birthday, the Rated R Superstar has been candid about the possibility of retiring from in-ring competition soon.
Edge's Toronto Retirement Plans
In a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that Edge had expressed his desire to have his final match in Toronto, where he began his wrestling career.
Although no Pay-Per-View event is scheduled in the Canadian city, Edge remains committed to closing out his career where it all started. Interestingly, Meltzer also mentioned that there had been backstage discussions about a potential reunion between Edge and his longtime best friend and former tag team partner, Christian (Cage).
The duo, collectively known as E&C, have enjoyed considerable success together, capturing multiple WWE Tag Team Championships. Christian returned to the squared circle at the 2021 Royal Rumble after a 7-year retirement, sharing an emotional moment with Edge before signing with rival promotion AEW in March 2021.
Although Christian's AEW contract remains unclear, he could return to WWE to reunite with Edge for one last run or match. Edge's current WWE contract, a lucrative three-year deal signed in early 2020, is set to expire later this year, making the timing of a potential E&C reunion uncertain.
As the wrestling world awaits further developments on this story, fans can only hope for one more opportunity to witness the iconic pairing of Edge and Christian in action before the Rated R Superstar hangs up his boots for good.
