WrestleMania 39 marked a new era as WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque took the reins to book the two-night Hollywood event. The card featured a more balanced approach, with two four-way tag team "showcase" matches highlighting the men's and women's tag divisions.
Recently, Chad Gable shared his thoughts on the mindset of the participants going into the men's showcase match during an appearance on the "Out of Character" podcast.
Gable on WrestleMania Showcase Mindset
Gable addressed the initial perception of the match, saying, "I think when that match got announced, a lot of people thought, 'Oh, they're just throwing this match on the card to get a bunch of guys a match,' which, whatever, fair enough." However, he emphasized that the competitors needed to share this view.
Instead, they saw the match as an opportunity to prove their worth and showcase their skills on the grand stage of WrestleMania. The talented wrestler explained that all participants treated the match as a chance to demonstrate their value to the WWE roster and fans.
Gable said, "This is our chance, chip on our shoulder, we have the chance to prove something here, like not only did we deserve to be on the show from the beginning, but if they're going to do it and call it a showcase thing, that's exactly what we're going to give them." Gable also mentioned the possibility of the showcase tag match becoming an annual tradition at WrestleMania, given their high-quality performance.
The former tag team champion recounted some memorable moments from the match, including the impressive Chaos Theory he executed on Braun Strowman and the spectacular Tower of Doom spot involving all the tag teams. According to Gable, the Tower of Doom spot was a testament to the diverse skills and characters represented by Alpha Academy, The Viking Raiders, Street Profits, and the team of Ricochet and Strowman.
Street Profits ultimately emerged victorious from the intense battle despite the stiff competition. The success of the showcase matches at WrestleMania 39 highlights the depth of talent within WWE's tag team divisions and the potential for future WrestleMania to feature similar high-stakes tag team contests.
