Growing up as a WWE fan, McIntyre joined the company in 2007 and quickly debuted on television.

Initially dubbed "The Chosen One," his early tenure with WWE was somewhat lackluster, culminating in his release in 2014. However, after establishing himself in other wrestling promotions, WWE took notice and brought McIntyre back into the fold in 2017, assigning him to their NXT brand.

McIntyre's primary roster return in 2018 marked the beginning of his ascent to stardom. By 2020, he had become the face of the Raw brand, winning the Royal Rumble and eliminating Brock Lesnar along the way. At Elimination Chamber, The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to dethrone McIntyre, who has not held any titles since. An anticipated victory over Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle ended in a surprising defeat, and McIntyre has been absent from the championship scene ever since.
