WWE RAW superstar Johnny Gargano has been absent from WWE programming in recent weeks, and now the reason behind it has been revealed. The report states that Gargano re-aggravated his shoulder injury during his last match at NXT Stand and Deliver, where he secured a victory over Grayson Waller.
The damage had previously sidelined him for much of January and worsened after his Royal Rumble return. Rumors were circulating that Gargano's absence was due to Vince McMahon's return to WWE, but the report from Fightful Select has debunked those claims.
It added that the 77-year-old communicated directly with Gargano in late 2021 and expressed his desire for the wrestler to continue with the company.
Reason for Johnny Gargano's WWE Absence
The report also suggests that the 35-year-old won't require surgery to heal his shoulder and will recover with physical therapy.
It is unclear when Gargano will return to the ring, but his fans will hope for a speedy recovery. Gargano returned to WWE in August last year after leaving the company in December 2021. Despite being one of the greatest NXT Superstars of all time, he has been unable to replicate his success on the main roster.
Upon his return, he briefly teamed up with Kevin Owens before aligning with Dexter Lumis in his feud against The Miz. Gargano also competed in the Elimination Chamber match this year but failed to win the United States title.
His last match on the main roster was in March, where he competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The wrestler returned to NXT after being introduced by Shawn Michaels as Grayson Waller's opponent for NXT Stand and Deliver.
The two faced off in an unsanctioned match, which Gargano won. It remains to be seen when Gargano will be back in action on WWE programming, but fans will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting his return. The wrestler has a large following, and many will hope he can replicate his success from NXT on the main roster.
