CM Punk's unexpected appearance at WWE Monday Night Raw in Chicago left fans and insiders buzzing with speculation. However, as more details emerged, it became clear that Punk was not there to negotiate a return but to visit and clear the air with some WWE personalities.
Punk had been doing commentary for Cage Fury Fighting Championships in Florida and coincidentally found himself on the same flight as WWE talent. Discovering that WWE was in Chicago, he decided to join them at the venue. Once there, he remained in the common area, mingling with wrestlers and briefly speaking with Paul "Triple H" Levesque.
CM Punk WWE Return Debunked
Rumors swirled about CM Punk testing the waters for a WWE comeback, but Pwinsider's detailed report debunked these speculations. Upon arriving at the venue, Punk asked Triple H if he could stay and talk, to which Triple H responded he would need to check with Vince McMahon, the "big guy." Punk stayed and spoke with several wrestlers, but after about 20 minutes, security asked him to leave, a decision reportedly made by McMahon.
Despite some believing Punk was asked to leave due to his AEW contract, it was noted that other AEW stars, such as Malakai Black and Andrade El Idolo, were recently allowed backstage at the WWE Hall of Fame. Punk's situation is considered unique because of his legal history with the company.
According to sources, Punk was away from Raw to gauge WWE's interest in his return. He remains under an AEW contract with a "lengthy" amount of time and cannot negotiate with WWE. Punk is scheduled to return to AEW on June 17 for the Collision show.
WWE insiders who saw Punk at Raw were initially in disbelief. Still, one person under contract noted that it seemed like Punk was trying to settle past disputes, particularly with The Miz and possibly with Triple H. His visit was more about mending fences than planning a comeback, putting to rest the rumors of a potential return to WWE.
