In wrestling, two MLW (Major League Wrestling) stars that seemingly align with the "WWE mold" are Alex Hammerstone and Jacob Fatu. These heavyweights possess the physical attributes and wrestling style that would fit perfectly in the WWE landscape.
Surprisingly, despite their natural talents, wrestlers have yet to come close to securing a WWE contract. While Hammerstone has admitted unsuccessfully auditioning for WWE three times, Fatu has remained quiet about his WWE aspirations.
MLW boss Court Bauer recently shared insights into WWE's rejections of his two-star wrestlers during an interview with "Busted Open Radio."
Alex Hammerstone & Jacob Fatu's WWE Snubs
Bauer revealed that during Hammerstone's tryouts, he was told he resembled Triple H too closely.
Similarly, Fatu had three or four tryouts at the WWE Performance Center but was never signed. Bauer emphasized that Fatu's continued commitment to MLW is a testament to the promotion's ability to nurture and develop talent like him.
Despite the deep-rooted family connections Fatu has with WWE's Bloodline, he enjoys his time in MLW. Bauer encouraged fans to support the company that has given Fatu a platform to shine rather than expecting him to join WWE, where the management didn't initially recognize his potential.
After his final WWE audition in 2018, Hammerstone tried out for Impact Wrestling but was also rejected. In an interview with Tommy Dreamer, Court Bauer revealed that Hammerstone reminded Impact executives of Shane Douglas.
Dreamer praised Bauer for signing Hammerstone, recognizing his talent and potential as a franchise player. Bauer lauded Hammerstone as a locker room leader and franchise player while highlighting Fatu's contributions to MLW.
He acknowledged that the promotion needed to "reload the roster" as talents moved to larger organizations like WWE and AEW. However, he emphasized that Hammerstone and Fatu have been MLW's foundations for four to five years.
Looking to the future, Bauer identified Alex Kane as MLW's next breakout star. Kane recently won MLW Battle Riot V, earning a shot at Hammerstone's MLW World Heavyweight Championship.
