The group's previous incarnation in NXT saw Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell, Austin Theory, and Dexter Lumis transition from despised villains to adored fan favorites. Since then, Gargano, LeRae, and Lumis have all departed and returned to WWE, while Hartwell rose through the ranks in NXT to become the NXT Women's Champion.
Meanwhile, Theory has achieved considerable success on the main roster, holding the current US Champion title. Following the WWE Draft, Gargano, LeRae, Hartwell, and Lumis found themselves on Raw, while the infamous Theory was drafted to SmackDown, making any reunion incomplete.
During a backstage segment in Jacksonville, Florida, the four members of The Way came together, declining Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville's petition for a WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match. Gargano hinted at a significant return, stating, "he's coming back soon," which may not sit well with his wife, Candice LeRae.
Fans speculate that Gargano refers to Tommaso Ciampa, who has been out of action since September 2022 due to hip surgery. Ciampa's Cpmeback Sparks Tension Ciampa and Gargano initially formed #DIY in NXT, winning the Tag Team Championship.
However, when they failed to reclaim the title from Authors of Pain at NXT TakeOver Chicago, Ciampa's shocking betrayal of Gargano became one of the brand's most memorable moments. The duo engaged in heated matches before reuniting, ultimately leading to Gargano turning on Ciampa in 2020.
LeRae supported her husband throughout the feud, so, unsurprisingly, she might be apprehensive about Ciampa re-entering their lives. It's important to note that Ciampa was not part of the recent WWE Draft, meaning he could return to either brand.
