In recent developments within the WWE universe, a storied rivalry between wrestling powerhouses Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar has been under the magnifying glass, sparking much controversy. The tension between these two superstars has escalated rapidly in the last few months.
This back and forth culminated in an intense match-up at WWE's Backlash event, where Rhodes astoundingly managed to win by countering Lesnar's feared Kimura Lock into a daring pin attempt. However, the rivalry escalated further at the WWE Night of Champions.
Rhodes, nursing an injury from Lesnar's ruthless assault, faced Lesnar wearing a cast on his left arm. Despite his "broken" arm, Rhodes displayed an unbreakable spirit as he competed. Nonetheless, Lesnar emerged victorious, forcing Rhodes into submission with the Kimura Lock.
How this storyline progresses has attracted the attention of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash. An esteemed veteran, Nash offers a valuable perspective on the ins and outs of wrestling entertainment. In a recent podcast episode, "Kliq This," Nash criticized the Lesnar-Rhodes angle.
Nash Criticizes Pre-Champions Raw Angle
Nash was notably critical of the preceding Raw angle leading up to the Night of Champions. This angle depicted Lesnar brutalizing Rhodes' left arm backstage, followed by a dramatic in-ring encounter where Lesnar forced the Kimura Lock on Rhodes.
Nash expressed his concerns in his podcast: "They continue to expose Cody in these situations where his wrestling credentials don't stack up. Cody was a fine high school wrestler, but he's not an NCAA Champion, nor a UFC Champion." Nash further argued about the unrealistic clearance given to Rhodes to compete against Lesnar in his injured state.
He quipped, "Who on earth is medically clearing these guys for such situations? The lack of realism is jarring and points to the current problems in WWE storytelling." Nevertheless, the storyline is marching on. In a recent Raw episode, Cody boldly called out Lesnar for not being "man enough" to make him tap out and issued an open challenge for another match.
This show of defiance implies that Lesnar's failure to accept would indicate his fear of Cody Rhodes, adding another layer of tension to this ongoing drama.
