Jim Cornette Claims AEW Star Will Defect to WWE Before Retirement

Jim Cornette, a seasoned WWE veteran, has recently predicted a significant shift in the wrestling landscape. He alleges that CM Punk, one of All Elite Wrestling's (AEW) most celebrated superstars, is merely biding his time before inevitably returning to WWE, presumably before his career end.

CM Punk, known for his illustrious stint with WWE, left the company under rather turbulent circumstances. After taking an extended break from wrestling, Punk made a triumphant return to the squared circle, this time under AEW, in 2021.

The prodigal son's return was received with resounding enthusiasm from fans.

However, his tenure with Tony Khan's promotion has been smooth. Particularly noteworthy was the discord at last years All Out media scrum.

Despite these challenges and Khan's public endorsement of his comeback, Cornette insists it's just a matter of time before Punk defects to WWE. "Punk is simply biding his time, earning his substantial annual salary, and waiting for his contract to run out.

He'll then stage a two-year run in WWE, amass several million more dollars, and exit on a high note, instead of being associated with the 'Outlaw group,'" speculated Cornette. "I can't fault him; it's exactly what he should do." Matt Hardy, another industry veteran, weighed in on Punk's return on his podcast, The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy.

He acknowledged Punk's star power and the significance of his comeback to the wrestling world. "Punk is a major player. His return is a game-changer. It will be fascinating to gauge the crowd's reaction, given AEW fans' insight and loyalty." Indeed, the anticipation surrounding Punk's future is palpable.

His next move in the wrestling world remains a topic of considerable intrigue and speculation, and whether Cornette's predictions come true, only time will tell. Notably, @WRKDWrestling reports that the WWE boardroom has seen murmurs of GUNTHER potentially smashing the historic title reign record held by the illustrious 'Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All-Time,' WWE Hall of Famer, The Honky Tonk Man.
