Seth Rollins, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, has reached the pinnacle of his wrestling career. With thunderous ovations from the crowd and a prestigious championship belt adorning his waist, it's undeniable that "The Visionary" is experiencing a scorching hot streak.
However, before this meteoric rise, Rollins was only sometimes positioned as one of the premier stars in WWE. In a recent episode of "Foley is Pod," wrestling legend Mick Foley expressed his belief that the wrestling community had taken Rollins for granted.
"We had truly started to overlook him. He's an extraordinary performer. I can't say that Seth was in my top five last year. But his recent focus on character development has been gradual," Foley remarked. "I remember when people thought it was the most embarrassing thing in wrestling, but I thought, 'He's onto something, and he's putting his heart into it.'
It was delightful to witness his evolution and wholehearted commitment to it." Drawing a parallel, Foley compared Rollins' current character to that of another WWE Hall of Famer. "He reminds me of Edge. Remember when Edge was at the peak of his character prowess, sinking his teeth into every role with gusto? It didn't matter how absurd it seemed; he embraced it fully," Foley observed.
"Initially, the new Seth Rollins character might have seemed ludicrous, but he persisted and believed in it. Although I don't watch wrestling as much as I used to, I've seen enough to realize that Rollins has achieved the perfect fusion of in-ring talent and character."
Rollins Reigns as Champion, Other Stars Overlooked
While Rollins now holds the coveted World Heavyweight title on "WWE Raw," Foley acknowledged that other deserving stars on the red brand could have equally claimed the top spot.
Roman Reigns had monopolized both world titles for over a year before introducing the World Heavyweight title, leaving several talented individuals needing to be noticed. Although some may argue that Cody Rhodes is one such individual, Foley opined that Rhodes's ongoing feud with Brock Lesnar is a more fitting trajectory for him at present.
"The title mustn't go to Cody just yet because the series with Lesnar is solidifying his credentials," Foley explained. "There will come a moment when he becomes 'the guy,' and everyone will recognize that he has earned it." Seth Rollins has risen above the underappreciation that once clouded his career, emerging as a force to be reckoned with in the wrestling world.
With his exceptional skills and newfound character depth, he has cemented his status as a true superstar, proving that everyone should take notice of his remarkable contributions to WWE.
