Before making his debut on "WWE NXT" in February 2020, Santos Escobar had already established himself in the vibrant wrestling scene of Mexico City, Mexico, having competed in both CMLL and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide promotions.
Today, Escobar has found his place on WWE's main roster as a critical member of Legado del Fantasma and the recently revived Latino World Order. In a recent appearance on "Out of Character with Ryan Satin," Escobar attributed his success in the United States to his time in Lucha Underground, opening up more wrestling opportunities.
When asked if Lucha Underground had provided him with more opportunities in the US, Escobar emphatically replied, "Absolutely, yeah. That was an essential part of my life and my career." His tenure in Lucha Underground, where he portrayed King Cuerno, shaped his journey.
It was a process that took time for Escobar, as he spent nearly five years with the promotion before signing with WWE in August 2019.
Character Development: King Cuerno Unleashed
The development of his character, King Cuerno, proved to be crucial in his growth as a performer.
Escobar explained, "This was a character that we had to develop, King Cuerno, the hunter. It helped me develop and grow my ability, talent, and tools for our industry and business." The portrayal of King Cuerno not only helped him hone his skills but also introduced him to the United States audience, creating intrigue and generating questions about his work.
Although Escobar has yet to capture championship gold on the main roster, he boasts an impressive reign as the former "NXT" Cruiserweight Champion. Additionally, he has come tantalizingly close to earning a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship, currently held by GUNTHER.
However, with the two superstars now on different brands, Escobar may have his sights set on pursuing the United States Championship unless he qualifies for the men's Money in the Bank ladder match. Santos Escobar's journey from Mexico to WWE has been a testament to his talent, dedication, and the opportunities he has embraced.
From his formative years in the Mexican wrestling circuit to his time in Lucha Underground, Escobar has continuously evolved as a performer and left a lasting impression on the wrestling landscape. As he continues to make his mark in WWE, fans eagerly await the next chapter in his compelling wrestling career.
