After Seth Rollins emerged victorious, securing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from AJ Styles at the Night of Champions, the landscape of WWE is set for a dramatic shift. Rollins dubbed The Visionary, is now preparing to face a fresh and worthy challenger.
The Visionary has already successfully defended his title once on television during the June 5th episode of Raw. His formidable opponent was Damien Priest, a Judgment Day faction member. The showdown happened in Wichita, Kansas, but the spectacle didn't end there.
Another Judgment Day member stepped forward to stake his claim to Rollins's title. That contender was Finn Balor, a significant figure in WWE history, having been the inaugural Universal Champion. Shortly after being promoted to Raw from NXT, he was awarded that prestigious title.
Intriguingly, the opponent he defeated at SummerSlam 2016 to become the Universal Champion was Seth Rollins.
Balor's Fleeting Championship Glory
However, the glory of Balor's victory was short-lived. A severe injury sustained during the match forced him into an extended hiatus from the ring and the heartbreaking decision to give up his title within a day of securing it.
That past disappointment was evident during the recent episode of Raw, where Balor, the Irish superstar, threw down the gauntlet to Rollins. He challenged The Visionary to a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming Money In The Bank event in London, England.
Rollins jabbed at his Irish rival, highlighting their diverging paths since that fateful SummerSlam clashed seven years ago. One of them, Rollins hinted, has become embittered, while the other has significantly improved. The match was promptly confirmed, setting the stage for Balor to vie for the championship before an enthusiastic European crowd on July 1st.
Notably, Rollins is still slated to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest at a live event in Madison Square Garden on July 7th. But as is always the case in the dynamic world of WWE, this line-up is subject to change.
