In the recent episode of WWE Smackdown at Madison Square Garden (MSG), the Bloodline's familial conflicts took center stage, contributing to timing irregularities. The introductory section was dominated by the volatile dynamics between the Undisputed WWE Champion, "Tribal Chief" Roman Reigns, and his cousins, The Usos - Jimmy and Jey.
The MSG episode opened with a poignant video reel highlighting Reigns' perceived insensitivity to The Usos, Solo Sikoa, and his consultant, Paul Heyman, who had shown unwavering loyalty to him. Reigns' reactions to the clips evoked deep-seated emotions, almost moving him to tears.
However, the emotional moment quickly escalated to physical confrontation as Reigns struck Jey with a low blow, kickstarting the scuffle. Occupying the first 35 minutes of the show, with a commercial break sandwiched in between, the opening sequence concluded with Reigns and Solo brutally assaulting Jimmy Uso.
At the same time, Jey was forced to witness the onslaught. Solo's Superfly Splash off the barricade resulted in Jimmy crashing through a table and subsequently being stretchered off the stage and transported away in an ambulance.
As reported by PWInsider, the Bloodline's opening sequence exceeded the initially allocated time slot - a reminder of the unpredictable nature of live broadcasts.
Subsequent Matches Rushed Due to Overrun
The overflow from the Bloodline's extended scene caused a rush in subsequent matches.
For instance, the bout between AJ Styles and Karrion Kross was noticeably expedited, culminating in Styles' swift victory in less than three minutes. Similarly, the WWE Women's Title segment featuring Asuka, Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Money in the Bank winner IYO SKY, and Bayley was constrained to a brief three-minute window, despite speculation that it was initially designed to be longer.
While Vince McMahon was present during the episode, PWInsider revealed that no significant alterations were made, and the original scheduling plans were preserved, barring minor time reductions. Despite these minor setbacks, WWE's spirits remain high. The Smackdown episode at MSG set impressive records, indicating that business is thriving in the WWE world.
