Dominik Mysterio, son of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, continues to make notable strides in the WWE universe. Booker T, a two-time WWE Hall of Famer and current NXT commentator, commends the strategic handling of Dominik's career by the company.
Dominik's wrestling journey began around three years ago, in the SummerSlam 2020, held at the Thunderdome. He had his first WWE match against Seth Rollins, which was not your typical introductory bout. It was a high-intensity Street Fight, staged without any audience due to restrictions at the time.
The match lasted over 20 minutes, and while Rollins emerged victorious, Dominik's impressive performance caught everyone's attention. Over the subsequent two years, Dominik honed his skills under the mentorship of his legendary father, Rey Mysterio.
Together, they made history by becoming the first-ever father-son duo to clinch the WWE Tag Team Champions title. In September 2022, Dominik took an unexpected turn, betraying his father and "Uncle" Edge during the Clash at the Castle event.
This significant heel turn led him to join The Judgment Day. As part of The Judgment Day for the last ten months, Dominik has established himself as one of the company's leading heels. His mere attempt to address the crowd draws vociferous boos, signifying his prowess as a heel.
While he's yet to overpower big names like Rey Mysterio, Seth Rollins, and Cody Rhodes, Dominik's inclusion in high-profile matches against these stars speaks volumes about his abilities.
Booker T Praises Dominik's Unique Path
Dominik's path in WWE is distinctive; unlike many WWE wrestlers, he didn't take the usual NXT route.
Booker T, in his Hall of Fame podcast, lauds this decision, stating that including Dominik in the NXT program could've been detrimental. He expressed, "[Dominik's] not like Rey Mysterio (his father), but he's like Rey Mysterio at the same time...
He’s so much taller, but his athleticism, his timing, the grace, the flawlessness, he does everything good”. Booker T believes that the WWE has unintentionally discovered a veritable star in Dominik, someone they can bank on for the next decade and a half.
Despite not being an NXT graduate, Dominik will have his NXT moment when he challenges Wes Lee for the NXT North American Title this Tuesday. This exciting showdown was arranged during the last week's NXT event.
