Tommy Dreamer & Bully Ray Assess Cody Rhodes' Struggles as WWE's Top Babyface

Despite losing in the headline bout of WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes remains an integral part of WWE's ongoing programming. On a recent episode of "Busted Open Radio," wrestling veteran Tommy Dreamer shared his view that Rhodes is being positioned as the company's top babyface.

However, Dreamer also acknowledged the strong cases by Seth Rollins and Finn Balor in their quest to dethrone Roman Reigns, which adds complexity to the notion of Rhodes assuming the mantle of the primary fan favorite. Additionally, Dreamer raised concerns about the potential "John Cena effect," fearing that if the audience anticipates Rhodes becoming the chosen face of the promotion, they might turn against him prematurely, much like Cena and even Reigns himself.

Should Rhodes indeed be in line to become the next Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Dreamer proposed an unconventional solution. He suggested that Damian Priest, holding the Money In The Bank briefcase, should immediately cash it in and seize the title from Rhodes.

However, Dreamer's co-host and fellow ECW legend, Bully Ray, expressed a different perspective.

"Bully Ray's Concerns on Cody's Championship Journey"

Bully Ray countered Dreamer's proposal, emphasizing the emotional toll already experienced by fans at WrestleMania 39.

He believed a victory over Reigns at WrestleMania 40 would hold greater significance due to Rhodes' prior defeat. However, Bully Ray acknowledged the risk in asking fans to wait an entire year, expressing concern that an immediate title loss to Priest via the briefcase could lead to fan backlash and rebellion.

"Rome wasn't built in a day," Bully Ray remarked, drawing a parallel to Vince McMahon's vision of Rhodes as the embodiment of success. He likened Rhodes to Rome, stating that McMahon was gradually constructing this vision, brick by brick and fan by fan.

Bully Ray acknowledged that Rhodes was pursuing his path but worried that WWE might be forcing him onto the audience, particularly with an upcoming documentary. At this point, Dreamer voiced his dissent, stating his unwavering support for Rhodes since the beginning.

The dynamic discussion shed light on the intricate challenges and considerations surrounding Rhodes' potential ascent as the top babyface in WWE. As the company continues to shape its narrative and build towards WrestleMania 40, the fate of Rhodes and the reaction of the passionate WWE fanbase hang in the balance, waiting for the final chapters of this captivating storyline to unfold.
