In the unpredictable world of professional wrestling, Baron Corbin, erstwhile known as "Happy," took on the mantle of "The Modern Day Wrestling God" when he paired with JBL in October 2022. Unfortunately, this union was not destined to prosper.
JBL parted ways with Corbin in February, leaving the latter wrestling with uncertainty. In a candid conversation with Corey Graves on the show "After the Bell," Corbin spoke about the profound anxiety he experienced during that phase.
"There was an undeniable sense of dread engulfing me because everything I had accomplished until then had somehow worked," Corbin recalled. "There was this one promo during my career where I stood in the ring, contemplating that there was no salvaging the situation.
It was a segment featuring multiple personalities, and I could feel the crowd's restlessness, the undercurrent of disappointment. It was akin to being stranded in the middle of the ocean, fearing the imminent attack of sharks.
I felt as if I was metaphorically drowning. That's when the pivotal conversation occurred, and I thought, 'What's the next move?' Subsequently, the 'NXT' opportunity surfaced, and without a second thought, I said, 'Absolutely, let's get down there and make it work.'
"Corbin's Career Post-Free Agency"
In the wake of the WWE Draft in May, Corbin was listed as a free agent, gaining the liberty to navigate between brands. He made appearances on both "WWE Raw" and "WWE SmackDown," albeit suffering defeats at the hands of Bobby Lashley and Butch.
However, his fortune improved significantly when he returned to "WWE NXT," entering a title program with Carmelo Hayes. His primary win against Ilja Dragunov earned him the coveted title shot. Unfortunately, he fell short at "Gold Rush," albeit reverting to his famous 'Lone Wolf' persona for the evening.
Reflecting on his experience with "NXT," Corbin expressed enjoyment, particularly citing his title feud and his nostalgic reprisal of the 'Lone Wolf' character. He found the surge in social media numbers especially impressive, given that it was merely an entrance. This ongoing journey continues to shape Corbin's wrestling career, inviting fans to follow along with bated breath.
