WWE's SummerSlam is just around the corner, and pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has weighed in on the much-anticipated matchup between Finn Balor and Seth Rollins. In a recent appearance on "McGuire on Wrestling," Meltzer explained why he believes Balor should emerge victorious in this clash for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Meltzer's rationale centers around the potential to elevate all members of The Judgment Day stable. Comprising top talents like Dominik Mysterio, holding the "NXT" North American Championship, the dominant WWE Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley, the 2023 men's Money in the Bank winner Damian Priest, and of course, the resilient Finn Balor, The Judgment Day stands as an imposing force within WWE's roster.
With Balor challenging Rollins for the prestigious World Heavyweight Championship, Meltzer sees an opportunity for the stable to enhance its stock further and become a dominant force in the company.
Meltzer Advocates Balor's Victory
"I just feel that the storyline, of number one, having the three people with the belts and then one with the [Money in the Bank] briefcase, and then you have the idea of the guy with the briefcase to cash in and the other guys to champion on the same team.
I like that storyline a lot. So I would have Balor win," Meltzer passionately stated. "Their business is going to do great either way, but if it was me, I would go with Balor right now." Meltzer acknowledges that WWE might be apprehensive about taking the title away from Rollins so soon after his recent win.
Nevertheless, he firmly believes that crowning Balor as the new World Heavyweight Champion would create compelling storytelling dynamics within The Judgment Day stable, showcasing their collective strength and ambitions. The history between Balor and Rollins adds an emotional layer to this encounter.
At the 2016 SummerSlam, Balor suffered a shoulder injury during his WWE Universal Championship match against Rollins, leading to the heartbreaking relinquishment of the title. This sets the stage for redemption, as Balor seeks to claim the World Heavyweight Championship he was unable to hold onto in the past.
Their rivalry reignited in May 2023, with Rollins triumphing over Balor in the semifinals of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament. Then, at Money in the Bank, Rollins successfully retained the title in a hard-fought contest against the determined Balor.
Now, SummerSlam presents the perfect opportunity for Balor to finally overcome Rollins and etch his name in the annals of WWE history. As the WWE Universe eagerly anticipates the clash between Balor and Rollins, Meltzer's insights have added an extra layer of excitement and intrigue to this high-stakes encounter.
Whether WWE decides to follow his recommendation or not, one thing is certain - SummerSlam will be a night to remember for wrestling fans worldwide.
