Mick Foley believes Ronda Rousey was crucial for the Women's WrestleMania main event

A few years ago, imagining a Women's Championship match as the pinnacle of WrestleMania might have been considered a daydream. Yet, in 2019, the seemingly impossible became a reality. The illustrious WrestleMania 35 bestowed upon a Women’s Championship match the grandest stage of all, marking an epochal moment in the annals of professional wrestling.

This historic match culminated with Becky Lynch emerging victorious, toppling not just Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey but also SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. This watershed victory solidified Lynch’s position in the sport, earning her the emblematic moniker "Becky Two Belts." WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling icon, Mick Foley, recently showered effusive praises on Rousey, reminiscing about the early days of her WWE journey.

Sharing his thoughts on his official Facebook page, Foley fondly remembered witnessing firsthand Rousey’s inception into the WWE universe alongside the charismatic Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in San Jose. "To witness Ronda’s debut was like watching a meteoric rise," Foley recollects.

"The aura she exuded was that of the 'baddest woman on the planet.' And even though she faced consecutive defeats in the UFC, her transition to WWE showcased her as this raw, uncut diamond, with unparalleled brilliance."

Foley Reflects on Rousey's Debut

Foley continued by expressing his sentiments about Rousey's 2018 WrestleMania match where she teamed with Kurt Angle against WWE's power duo, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

"It wasn’t necessarily the best match of 2018, but it rejuvenated my passion for the sport. The sheer zeal Rousey displayed on the mat, especially against a titan like Triple H, was simply electrifying. I remember exclaiming, 'she’s genuinely giving her all!' and she undeniably was." Dedication, perseverance, and an unyielding commitment to her craft enabled Rousey to excel, consistently delivering impressive performances against varied adversaries.

Foley asserts, "Without Rousey's presence, the possibility of WWE spotlighting a women’s match in the 2019 WrestleMania main event remains in question. While many envision the ultimate bout as Becky versus Ronda, the fact remains indisputable: with merely a year of professional wrestling under her belt, Ronda Rousey commanded the main event of WrestleMania."
