In a recent episode of his "Hall of Fame" podcast, wrestling legend Booker T delved into his experience working alongside CM Punk during their stint on "WWE Backstage." The show, which aired from November 5, 2019, to January 30, 2021, on FS1, featured a dynamic duo of hosts, Renee Paquette and Booker T, who were joined by various special guests, including the enigmatic CM Punk, marking his return to the pro wrestling scene.
During the podcast conversation, Booker T provided valuable insights into his professional rapport with CM Punk, shedding light on their working relationship while on the "Fox" show. He began by acknowledging that while they weren't close friends, they maintained a professional demeanour and effectively "handled business." "Punk was easy to work with, but he was kind of standoffish," Booker T said.
"You know, him and I, him and I were, you know, acquaintances, and I guess we would be called what in the workplace? Coworkers. Yeah, coworkers, and we handled business like what you said a second ago. You don't have to like who you're working with to work with them."
Professional Dynamics with CM Punk
Booker T elaborated on the nature of his relationship with CM Punk during their collaboration on "WWE Backstage." He emphasized that they maintained a professional and amicable working partnership, acknowledging they were not close outside their professional obligations.
"I don't think CM Punk, you know, looked at me as one of his buddies or anything like that. I've never been one of the guys to call CM Punk on the phone. CM Punk and I have never broken bread or anything like that. And it's one of those deals where I understand that he understands that, and we both play our roles.
We play our roles to the best of our ability, I think, on that show, I think that's what happened. He didn't get in my way. I didn't get in his way, and I think that's how it should always be when you're working in the workplace," Booker T., a Hall of Famer, concluded.
Booker T's candid reflections provide fans with a glimpse behind the scenes of the wrestling world, highlighting the professionalism and dedication required to succeed in the industry. While their relationship may not have extended beyond the workplace, their collaboration on "WWE Backstage" undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the memories of wrestling enthusiasts.
