In a surprising turn of events, wrestling icon Lex Luger has officially signed a contract with WWE, marking a significant development in his enduring relationship with the world of professional wrestling. Luger's storied career has spanned decades and seen him rise to prominence in various wrestling promotions.

Lex Luger first made his mark in the late 1980s as part of Jim Crockett Promotions when he joined the formidable faction known as The Four Horsemen. During this period, he clinched the NWA/WCW US Championship multiple times and achieved the pinnacle of success by capturing the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at The Great American Bash in 1991, following Ric Flair's departure from the promotion.

Transitioning to the ill-fated World Bodybuilding Federation, Luger later made his WWE debut at WrestleMania 9 in 1993, initially portraying the detested character of "The Narcissist." However, he underwent a remarkable transformation into an All-American hero after Hulk Hogan's exit from the company.

Despite his push, Luger narrowly missed securing the WWE Championship, with his closest opportunity coming at SummerSlam 1993 when he defeated the title-holder, Yokozuna, by count-out.

Lex's WCW Resurgence

Luger's legacy in wrestling took another turn when he made an unexpected jump to WCW Nitro's inaugural episode, leaving WWE without prior notice.

During his WCW tenure, he once again claimed the WCW World Title and remained a prominent figure until Vince McMahon acquired the company in 2001. In a recent episode of his podcast, "Lex Expressed," Luger disclosed his ongoing contractual ties with WWE, highlighting his role as an ambassador for the organization.

He expressed his deep connection to the wrestling community, remarking, "I feel like I've come full circle. Wrestling fans, I don't know how else to explain it, they're just special, and I feel like I'm a fan now." While Luger has had a limited number of matches post-WCW, his absence from the WWE Hall of Fame remains a notable omission.

Speculation surrounds this exclusion, with his complicated history, including his relationship with Miss Elizabeth at the time of her tragic passing, potentially contributing to the delay in his WWE Hall of Fame induction.

Luger's return to WWE, even in an ambassadorial capacity, underscores the enduring impact he has had on the wrestling world, further cementing his place in the annals of sports entertainment history. Wrestling enthusiasts, both old and new, will undoubtedly continue to celebrate his contributions to this beloved form of entertainment.
