In a year marked by spectacular rivalries in WWE, the feud between NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has stood out as one of the most electrifying. Initially aligning with wrestling legend Lita, the duo claimed victory over Damage CTRL's Bayley, IYO SKY, and Dakota Kai at WrestleMania.
However, the alliance was short-lived; Stratus turned on Lynch after a losing effort in a tag team contest, setting the stage for a dramatic showdown at Night of Champions in May. Thanks to a timely intervention from Zoey Stark, Stratus emerged victorious, further intensifying the feud.
The high-stakes rivalry reached its zenith last month at WWE Payback in a Steel Cage Match — a first for Stratus. Although she fell to Lynch, the bout has been hailed as one of the best WWE matches of the year, a testament to the exceptional talents of both wrestlers.
Stratus' Career Favorite
When asked about the favorite match of her illustrious career, Trish Stratus surprised fans at the recent Big Texas Comic Con. In a Q&A session, captured in a video by Tales From The Collection: Autograph & Fan Mail, Stratus cited her WrestleMania 22 clash with Mickie James as her all-time favorite.
"That match at WrestleMania 22 was something special," Stratus remarked. "We had a fantastic storyline that engaged the fans emotionally. Storylines like that are rare, not just for women, but in the world of wrestling as a whole.
They often start and stop abruptly, but Mickie and I had something that was deeply compelling." The 2006 bout featured James, a fresh face on the WWE main roster, as a crazed superfan of Stratus. The storyline evolved into a twisted tale of obsession, culminating in a memorable match for the WWE Women’s Title, a narrative still discussed avidly by fans even 17 years later.
"It's the kind of rivalry that leaves an indelible mark, not just on us as performers but on the fans who witnessed it," Stratus continued. "While my recent rivalry with Becky Lynch has been incredible, the emotional impact of that battle with Mickie James at WrestleMania 22 will always hold a special place in my heart." As Stratus and Lynch continue to redefine women’s wrestling in WWE, Stratus’ candid reflection adds another layer to the rich tapestry of her career, a career that will long be remembered for these iconic rivalries.
