In a recent Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session, WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle delved into the pivotal role his early love triangle storyline with Stephanie McMahon and Triple H played in shaping his professional wrestling career.
Joining WWE in 1998, Angle catapulted onto the main roster merely a year later. Among his introductory storylines was a memorable love triangle with Stephanie McMahon and her on-screen spouse, Triple H. Not only did this narrative captivate fans, but according to Angle, it also fast-tracked his career trajectory.
"The chemistry I had with Stephanie and Triple H set the stage for my WWE persona," Angle stated. "Brian Gewirtz, the scriptwriter, along with Vince McMahon, orchestrated a story that I couldn't be more thankful for. If not for that specific angle, I might have languished in the mid-card division for another couple of years."
Angle's Career Boost
Angle credits the success of this early love triangle for elevating him beyond the mid-card tier much sooner than he might have otherwise advanced.
"Storylines can make or break careers," he explained. "The era was different, but had I not been given that opportunity or had it not resonated with fans, who knows where my career would've gone." Additionally, Angle weighed in on the recent WWE signing of Jade Cargill, the former TBS Champion whose AEW contract ended earlier this year.
She has since made appearances on NXT, SmackDown, and Monday Night Raw. Speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, Angle couldn't help but express admiration for the rising star. "She has a physique even more imposing than mine," Angle observed.
"Jade Cargill is an astonishing talent, and I foresee an illustrious career ahead of her in WWE. They are going to absolutely love what she brings to the table."
