WWE legend Mick Foley recently sat down with Sean Evans on the popular interview show to delve into the anatomy of one of his most jaw-dropping in-ring moments. Though Foley retired from full-time WWE action in 2000, he made a splashy comeback in the 2004 Royal Rumble.

Yet it's his iconic 2000 Madison Square Garden Street Fight against Paul "Triple H" Levesque for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship that remains the stuff of wrestling folklore. The pinnacle of the match was a risky spot where Foley took a Pedigree from Triple H into a mound of thumbtacks, a moment that continues to captivate WWE fans.

While this heart-stopping stunt was as perilous as they come, Foley told Evans that it was a calculated risk he and Triple H decided to undertake, even against the explicit wishes of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Defying McMahon

According to Foley, McMahon had unequivocally told the two wrestlers, “No thumb tacks”.

However, the moment the boss left the vicinity, Triple H quizzically asked, "You put them under the ring already?" To which Foley retorted, "Yeah, I got it taken care of." The duo felt the spectacle would be worth the inherent risks, driven by the promise of the crowd’s ecstatic reaction.

"I have this God-given gift of instantaneous risk-reward analysis," Foley explained. “I saw that pile of five or six thousand tacks and thought about the ramifications. I could lose an eye, but just imagine the roar from the crowd.

That would be unforgettable." The question that lingers is whether this daring stunt would have stood the test of time had Foley suffered grievous injuries like losing an eye. While fans may have gotten another signature call from legendary commentator Jim Ross to immortalize in GIFs, the wrestling community breathed a collective sigh of relief as both Foley and Triple H emerged from the ordeal relatively unscathed.

This mesmerizing moment is a stark contrast to Foley's other infamous bout against The Undertaker in the Hell in a Cell match, where he was significantly less fortunate. Yet, it stands as a testament to Foley's unparalleled commitment to giving fans a spectacle worth remembering, consequences be damned.
