In professional wrestling, comebacks are as integral to the narrative as the matches. Brian "Road Dogg" James, one-half of the acclaimed duo 'The New Age Outlaws,' recently spent time on his podcast "Oh You Didn't Know", reminiscing over the year 2014 when he and partner Billy Gunn were named the third runner-up for Pro Wrestling Illustrated's (PWI) 'Comeback of the Year.'

A decade on, as one of wrestling's most enduring icons, Sting gears up for his retirement match, James tips his hat to his former competitor's remarkable resilience in the sport. Reflecting on a year that saw heavyweights like Batista and Bobby Lashley return to the ring, James looked inside at his thoughts and experiences from that time, emphasizing the competitive spirit that drives wrestling's most beloved figures.

"To be ranked fourth on that comeback list was an honour; it was the pinnacle of that year's work," James mused, acknowledging the tough competition from the legendary Sting, who clinched the top honour.

James Lauds Sting's Tenacity

In his characteristic straight-shooting style, James confessed to his co-host that he never imagined Sting would continue to battle in the ring for another ten years.

"I didn't see it coming, but he's proven time and again that he's full of surprises, and he's earned my respect — and then some," James said, with a tone of genuine respect for Sting's tenure, notably his recent stint in AEW (All Elite Wrestling).

Sting's wrestling journey has been nothing short of cinematic. After announcing his retirement in 2016, fans were thrilled by his unexpected return in 2021 at AEW Revolution, where he teamed up with Darby Allin for a memorable Street Fight.

As Sting prepares to lace up his boots one last time for AEW Revolution 2024, the anticipation among wrestling enthusiasts is palpable. However, before the final bell tolls on his career, Sting isn't finished yet. At 64 years young, he's slated for one more explosive match at AEW Full Gear, teaming with Allin and Adam Copeland to face off against the formidable trio of Nick Wayne, Luchasaurus, and Christian Cage.

James' acknowledgment of Sting's career is not just a nod to a peer but a salute to the enduring appeal of professional wrestling's storytelling prowess, where legends are forged in the fires of comebacks and retirements, much to the delight of fans worldwide.

As the industry hails one of its most significant, the tale of Sting's final chapter is poised to captivate audiences, adding to the rich tapestry of wrestling history.
