WWE is gearing up to make 2024 a memorable year for European wrestling fans with a series of major events, including the highly anticipated Backlash, set to be held in France. This announcement comes on the heels of the earlier reveal that Bash in Berlin will take place on August 31, 2024, in the German capital.

This event coincides with AEW's return to Wembley Stadium in London for All In, ensuring a thrilling week for wrestling aficionados across Europe. The upcoming Backlash 2024 event marks a historic moment for WWE as it will be the first premium live event the company has ever hosted in France.

Scheduled for May 4, 2024, the event is set to take place at the LDLC Arena in Lyon-Decines, located in the scenic southeast region of the country. This choice of venue is particularly poignant given its proximity to Grenoble, the hometown of WWE’s legendary French wrestler, André The Giant.

It's highly likely that WWE will seize this opportunity to honor the iconic star during the event.

WWE's Global Expansion

#WWEBacklash, the announcement on social media has already generated significant buzz. This move is part of WWE's ongoing strategy to expand its global presence by hosting major events in diverse locations.

In 2023, the company held Backlash in Puerto Rico, continuing its trend of seeking new and exciting venues for its premium live events. While the financial details behind the decision to host Backlash in France have not been disclosed, it's clear that WWE is actively seeking lucrative site fees for these major showcases.

Reflecting on WWE's history in France, the company last visited the nation for a live event in Paris in April 2023. Lyon, the host city for the upcoming Backlash, last witnessed WWE action back in November 2016 with a live event headlined by Kevin Owens defending his Universal Title against Seth Rollins.

WWE has also aired televised shows in France on the French station Canal+, with the last one dating back to April 1993, featuring a main event between Yokozuna and Jim Duggan. This expansion into France with Backlash 2024 not only reflects WWE's commitment to bringing top-tier wrestling entertainment to fans around the world but also underscores the growing popularity and global reach of the sport.

European fans, in particular, have much to look forward to, with a roster of spectacular events lined up for the coming year.
