Recent "Insight with Chris Van Vliet" guest and WWE superstar Chelsea Green talked about the experience of being a fan of wrestling and her particular wistfulness for the Divas Era (2008-2015) of WWE. Green, who was a huge fan of wrestling that began when she first witnessed the work of Kelly Kelly, shared how much she loved the unique blend of feminine display and athletic displays from the period.
"I was really made to be in the Divas era. I really was," Green added during the interview. "I loved the girliness of it. I like watching catfights. I didn't get into this to be a UFC fighter. That's just not me. I like a good old bitch slap, things like that.
That is my form of entertainment, that's what I love." In addition to confessing to the entertainment-focused era, Green also highlighted athleticism in most of the female superstars from the era. She posited that while the era might have had its focal points on such, things there were women who could execute impressive in-ring maneuvers that generally went by unnoticed.
Gratitude for Iconic Encounters
While Green cannot reverse time and wrestle in the Divas Era, she had to be thankful for having been bestowed the experience of sharing the ring with some of those iconic figures of the past like Victoria, Mickie James, and Natalya.
Notably, Green was involved in the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble, along with her original inspiration, Kelly Kelly, whom she credits with having made an impact on her wrestling journey. Reflecting back on Kelly Kelly knowing the worth of the contribution, Green affirmed that the former Divas Champion does know the influence that she has affected on the career growth of Green.
Green's comments do, therefore, exemplify her respect to the WWE Divas Era and how she wants to represent the embodiment of that very specific blend of femininity and athleticism. In working her way through to a legacy of her own in the world of professional wrestling, it speaks volumes in itself of how influence from the previous generation still manages to impress upon the changing landscape.
