A day of mourning for wrestling fans: legendary wrestler Paul "The Butcher" Vachon died during the evening of February 29 at the age of 86. The sad news was posted by Pat Laprade, who wrote in a social network that Vachon was an extremely iconic figure in professional wrestling — as well as in life.

He published this message on his social network to express his condolences most sincerely to Vachon's widow, Dee, and their family in the very difficult hour. "Paul "The Butcher" Vachon is one of the greatest wrestlers from that era.

He was not only an outstanding competitor in days of yore gold but also one of the friends they shared with many people in their wrestling heritage. All my sympathies go to his wife Dee and his whole family," said Laprade.

Paul Vachon's Wrestling Legacy

Paul Vachon was distinguished for his great career in professional wrestling, full of huge achievements and effective input into the sport.

He is most noted for becoming one-half of another formidable tag team with his brother Maurice "Mad Dog" Vachon, when they captured the AWA World Tag Team Championship. Theirs was an amazing career that reverberated from arenas to newsprint across each continent.

In 2010, Paul's impact was recognized when he was inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. Much later in life, Paul was always behind the scenes and contributed much greater to the establishment of Grand Prix Wrestling with his brother Maurice in Quebec, than some of the tallest titans who ever rumbled the squared circle.

A great courage characterized his life. He was as brave against his cancer as he could be when wrestling with his opponents. This great spirit of his earned him a lot of admiration. We sorrowfully pass our condolences to his family, friends, and admirers as his contribution to professional wrestling is honored and remembered forever.

His achievements in this sport truly put a mark on this world, thus leaving room for his name to be mentioned forever in the hearts of wrestling fans from all over the world.
