In a playful jab at the digital world of sports entertainment, WWE Superstar Grayson Waller voiced his disbelief on the popular social platform, WWE Games X (previously known as Twitter), regarding a recent video clip that showcased a boxing legend landing a punch on him within the virtual realm of WWE 2K24.

The clip was shared by the @WWEgames account, coinciding with the announcement that Muhammad Ali, a figure synonymous with boxing greatness, will be honored with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame during the grand WrestleMania 40 festivities set to unfold in Philadelphia.

The WWE Games account celebrated Ali's forthcoming induction with a tweet that echoed his iconic phrase, "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Congratulations to Muhammad Ali on being inducted into the #WWEHOF Class of 2024!" This was accompanied by a brief four-second snippet of gameplay from WWE 2K24, showcasing Ali as a playable character for the first time in the franchise's history, delivering a punch to Waller.

Waller Mocks Simulation

Waller, known for his vibrant persona and in-ring prowess, responded to the video with a tongue-in-cheek remark, underscoring the surreal nature of the simulation: "Very unrealistic, he could never land a punch on me." WWE 2K24, which hit the shelves across all gaming platforms on March 8, features an expansive roster of over 200 playable characters, including the legendary Ali, who players can unlock with in-game currency.

The game pays homage to Ali's storied career, including his 1976 exhibition match against Antonio Inoki in Tokyo, Japan, a bout often credited as a seminal moment in the evolution of mixed martial arts. Ali's legacy within WWE also includes his role as a special guest referee at the inaugural WrestleMania in 1984, where he famously delivered a right hand to "Rowdy" Roddy Piper's jaw in the main event.

Ali, a three-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, left an indelible mark on the world of sports and entertainment before his passing on June 3, 2016, at the age of 74. His inclusion in WWE 2K24 not only honors his contributions to sports but also bridges the gap between boxing and professional wrestling, celebrating the enduring impact of his charismatic spirit and unparalleled athleticism.
