Eric Bischoff Critiques AEW's Increased PPV Strategy

In the ever-evolving landscape of professional wrestling, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has made the strategic decision to increase the number of its pay-per-view (PPV) offerings, a move that diverges from its previous approach of hosting just four PPVs annually between 2020 and 2021.

This adjustment in strategy, however, has raised concerns among industry veterans, including the outspoken Eric Bischoff. During a candid discussion on his podcast, "Strictly Business," Bischoff shared his apprehensions about AEW's direction, highlighting the potential challenges this could pose to the promotion's creative team.

According to Bischoff, AEW's decision to add more PPV events to its calendar might exacerbate existing pressures on the creative process, which he characterizes as already bearing the weight of expectations. "The decision to introduce an additional pay-per-view event is likely to compound the creative pressures on a system that, in my view, is currently stretched thin.

Despite some visible progress, the creative team at AEW faces a monumental task, and this move could hinder their ability to deliver a consistently high-quality product," Bischoff explained. He further elaborated on his perspective, noting, "While there's no doubt that AEW is in a phase of growth and adaptation, with its personnel gaining valuable experience along the way, the creative aspect appears to be in a state of flux.

In my opinion, injecting more content into this already complex equation is likely to strain the creative team even further, potentially impacting the overall excellence of the AEW product."

Market's Verdict Awaited

Bischoff conceded that the success of AEW's strategy would ultimately be measured by its financial outcomes, suggesting that the market will be the final arbiter.

"The true test will come in observing whether AEW's revenue trends upward or begins to falter in the coming months. The market's response will be telling," he stated. While Bischoff expressed skepticism, other figures within the wrestling community have shown support for AEW's new direction.

Notably, Booker T offered a more optimistic take, while AEW's Tony Khan remains confident that the expansion of PPV events will fuel further growth for the promotion, underscoring the diverse range of opinions on this strategic pivot.
