Roman Reigns, a dominant force in WWE, has seen his reign come to an end after holding the top title for an impressive 1,316 days. The narrative surrounding his title loss involves not just the action in the ring but also significant behind-the-scenes decisions involving key WWE figures like Vince McMahon and Triple H.

Challenging Reigns directly was "The American Nightmare," Cody Rhodes. Rhodes had only recently made his return from a career-threatening injury to win his first Royal Rumble; he was up for dethroning Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

Fans had aspirations of storylines, with a heroic babyface overcoming the established heel champion. But it was this big event that Rhodes did not win. Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp has shared some backstage news that would back up those reports, where Rhodes was to win.

He said it was in the attempt to make his eventual win more meaningful. Reigns himself was reportedly against dropping the title from early on; hence it was not a decision in haste.

Strategic Victory Delayed

Yet, despite the disagreement, there was concurrence among WWE's top brass, including McMahon and Triple H, to delay the victory of Rhodes.

The decision was a twofold success as it not just retained the dominant narrative of Reigns but set the stage for future dramatic developments. This, in turn, has helped elevate others in the WWE universe. "Main Event" Jey Uso has become rather quite the favorite and is set to meet against World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest soon.

On the other hand, Rhodes' victory, when it did occur, was cheered as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, WrestleMania moments, a legend added to the sport. With his victory, Roman Reigns would be nowhere to be seen in WWE's programming, raising questions about his eventual return.

Even Rhodes himself has commented on that possibility, giving a lot of credit to Reigns for his contributions but also ready for any challenge he may put upon his return. "I'm speaking very kindly of him now, but he might be planning his comeback to take me down.

That's okay; I'll be ready," said Rhodes, indicating a readiness for whatever lies ahead. This ongoing saga adds layers to WWE’s storytelling, promising more intrigue and excitement as fans eagerly await the next chapter in this storied rivalry.

The drama continues to unfold, with potential clashes looming not just with Reigns but also with other formidable opponents like The Rock, teasing what could be a spectacular showdown in the near future.
