Ronda Rousey, the former WWE and UFC star, has made a very sincere apology for spreading the wrong information about the Sandy Hook tragedy. In her most recent post, Rousey expressed deep regret over propagating conspiracy theories regarding a 2012 mass murder of 26 people, including 20 children.

Rousey released a video backing up these harmful conspiracy ideas in 2013. The video was eventually deleted, but it didn’t matter anymore. Now, more than ten years later, Rousey calls this the “single worst decision” she ever made. She admitted that even being canceled for supporting these lies would have been justified.

“I apologize for it being eleven years too late, but I am sorry from the bottom of my heart and soul to all the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre who I hurt. I can’t imagine what you have gone through, and words aren’t enough for how truly apologetic and embarrassed I feel contributing to it. Every day ever since then until I die,” wrote Rousey in her statement.

Ronda Rousey Urges Change

Apart from apologizing, Rousey also called on other people who may be involved in promoting similar conspiracy theories to make a change. She warned them against this because it only worsens the pain others already suffer. This is not good either: one should mind what they share online.

I must note that she was not alone among professional wrestlers who endorsed such views. Another ex-WWE wrestler, Brian Kendrick, also referred to the Sandy Hook tragedy as just another conspiratorial hoax. People talked about Rousey's controversial statements even during Natalya’s WWE feud with her on social media.

Through making public apologies like this one, Ronda reminds us all about what misinformation can do to society and where public personalities owe their audience some responsibility.
