WWE’s Bad Blood pay-per-view this past weekend was one filled with heaps of drama and heat, both in and out of the ring. While the audience was still buzzing about The Rock’s surprise return, a moment that wasn’t supposed to happen took place off screen after the event was over. Kevin Owens did the unexpected turning heel in the parking lot, brutally attacking Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. Some fans who were around the area managed to post videos and this led to one of WWE’s top executives, Triple H coming out to respond to the matter. He calmed the press by stating as usual that this is a WWE matter.
On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer talk out the shocking moment between Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes abuse. This, too, like Dusty Rhodes and Ole Anderson, was an angle that one aired in 1979. Dusty’s son is in the ring and he mentioned that he thinks there was a parking lot fight and this incident was inspired by that. Meltzer also suggested that the brawl being kept from the television audiences might have been WWE's idea of tact. This allowed them to avoid Owens getting cheered or Rhodes getting booed, thereby assuring the fans support towards Rhodes before his impending feud with The Rock.
Owens-Rhodes Ongoing Tension
Owens and Rhodes’ conflict has been ongoing for months, dating back to the Bash in Berlin event. At that event, Rhodes challenged Owens to fight for his belt. Although careless, Owens appeared reluctant to accept the match, even though he ultimately agreed. When Rhodes defended his title, the two seemed to resolve their quarrel and embrace each other as friends once again. But in the past couple of weeks, it has been revealed how some of the ‘turbulence’ has come from Kevin periodical separation from Rhodes. Since that moment, things only went downhill after Rhodes joined Roman in an audible direction, and they turned their heads to beat up Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood.
