The world of wrestling entertainment (WWE) is filled with unexpected events in and out the ring, to the point that reality often takes center stage. Former WWE wrestler Sonya Deville is one such name that was in the headlines a few years back for dramatic reasons. Her experience from 2020 demonstrates so many perspectives such as Sonya's determination and WWE's Vince McMahon's support as well.
In August of 2020, Sonya Deville, who is also known as Daria Berenato, dealt with stalking like cases. Her florida house was broken into by a stalker with the intention of grabbing her. The stalker was armed with a knife and duct tape while also possessing zip ties. He had been planning it for months which is terrifying. T
hankfully Deville’s security system warned her which made both her and other party guest WWE star Mandy Rose escape safely. The stalker was caught quickly and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Vince McMahon’s Unmatched Support
While Deville navigated her trauma, Vince McMahon did something that was beyond professional. Out of concern for her health, McMahon contacted her and insisted she come to the SummerSlam event, not to work, but to spend time with him so he could help her in person.
As I have mentioned, McMahon went to great lengths to ensure all of Deville’s safety and peace of mind during this vulnerable time. He booked a secluded private cottage for her in a different Florida region with restricted public access. Along with that, he furnished her with armed security personnel who would be available for her all day everyday.
McMahon’s efforts were not well known until Deville spoke about it during an interview, which goes on to attest the degree to which his commitment to talent goes.
This serves as an eye opener to the lesser known reality to WWE which is that despite all the hype around their athletes, storylines and personas, they operate like a tight family. The company’s devotion to the performers beyond the ring is exhibited through McMahon’s care for them. T
hat serves as a reality check for the people who are fans of WWE because the relationships surfers in that place are real, and so are the people in the leadership roles who care about the company’s stars.
