Upon capturing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2015, and after winning his first Intercontinental Championship, Seth Rollins became the 29th Triple Crown Champion and the 18th Grand Slam Champion. Rollins has headlined numerous major pay-per-view events for WWE, including WrestleMania 31.
Industry veteran Sting, who wrestled his final match against Rollins, described him as the most talented professional wrestler he has ever seen or worked with. He was the cover athlete for video game WWE 2K18. Rollins teamed up with Lynch and defeated Corbin and Evans at Extreme Rules in a Winner Takes All Mixed Tag Team match.
On the same night, Rollins lost the title to Lesnar who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, ending his reign at 98 days. The following night on Raw, Rollins won a ten-man battle royal for the right to face Lesnar for the championship at SummerSlam by last eliminating Randy Orton.
At the event, Rollins defeated Lesnar after three Stomps to become a two-time Universal Champion. This victory makes Seth the only other superstar besides Lesnar to hold the Universal title on more than one occasion. Rollins spoke with Cathy Kelley after his victory over Brock Lesnar: “That took every single ounce of me.
Like for months, just everything, physically, emotionally, spiritually if you’re into that thing. It just took every ounce of me to get that W, and that was the one I wanted. WrestleMania was what it was. Holding the title for a couple of months was what it was, but that’s the Brock Lesnar I wanted.
That’s the competitor I wanted in the ring. I need to know how good I am, you know? I go out there every single night, and I tell the world how I good I am, but that’s the proof. And I can’t do that without him coming with that — all that, all that is Brock Lesnar.
To me, that might be my greatest victory in the history of my career, greater than WrestleMania. And you know, this is it. This is everything I am. This is all I got”.
