As everyone knows, WWE has announced a series of releases in recent days and everyone has been speechless. Triple H made a decision that no analyst would have expected at this time and there had been no clues about it, although the Stamford’s federation has already accustomed itself in the past to surprises of this type after the most important events on the calendar.
Among the names involved in this wave of layoffs, one of the most high-sounding is undoubtedly that of Braun Strowman. The latter has been one of the symbolic faces of the company in recent years, although he has never shown his full potential for a number of reasons that are not easy to explain.
New details on Braun's release
Braun had always maintained an impeccable approach in this first segment of the 2025 season and had continued to work hard, despite the fact that it was now evident that WWE management had stopped believing in his talent.
According to Dave Meltzer - a well-known analyst for 'Wrestling Observer' - one of the main reasons behind The Game's choice to release Strowman would be related to his very expensive salary. Although he now had a leading role in the company's shows, his compensation continued to be decidedly high and the decision to fire him would have been inevitable.
Braun – who had already been released by WWE in 2021 (before returning the following year) – had made his last match on the April 4 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, when he was decisively defeated by Jacob Fatu. The former Universal Champion had not been included in the WrestleMania 41 card, a further indication of the company's desire to get rid of him.
“He is the one that, the salary was high. One person told me that they felt he was paid more than how they were using him I guess is the best way to put it, but salary played a part in this” – Meltzer explained on the latest edition of the ‘Wrestling Observer Newsletter’.
