Goldberg's final match in WWE is getting closer and closer and fans are eager to witness the last performance of one of the greatest legends in the history of this business. Although he has had several injuries in recent months and has struggled more than expected to get medical clearance to return to the ring, the former world champion wanted to end his amazing career on his own terms and he succeeded in this feat.

Bill appeared on Monday Night Raw earlier this week and officially challenged Gunther, who returned to being the World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Jey Uso (who had beaten him at WrestleMania 41 to the floor).

Through an official note that was released on June 20, WWE announced to the whole world that 'Da Man' will face 'The Ring General' in the most anticipated match of Saturday Night's Main Event, scheduled for Saturday, July 12 in Atlanta.

“WWE®, part of TKO Group Holdings (NYSE: TKO), today announced that individual event tickets for Saturday Night’s Main Event® on Saturday, July 12 – headlined by Goldberg’s final match versus WWE World Heavyweight champion GUNTHER – and Evolution® on Sunday, July 13, in Atlanta will go on sale starting Wednesday, June 25 at 10am ET/7am PT via Ticketmaster.com” – WWE stated.

Goldberg draws criticisms

In recent days, some insiders have criticized the WWE management's choice to allow Bill to compete immediately against the current world champion, considering it a lack of respect for all those young stars who work and perform every single week.

The 58-year-old from Tulsa's in-ring appearances have been very sporadic in recent years and injuries have affected the latter part of his career, preventing him from performing in the ring as a legend of his caliber would have wished.

'Da Man' is unlikely to be at the top of his shape in less than a month and his eventual victory against Gunther is quite unlikely, but it would be a serious mistake to underestimate an athlete who has made wrestling history and has often gone beyond the limits of his body.
