The career of Jey Uso in WWE was short but daring as he rose and conquered highest peak of mountain, and way things turned out in recent times shows that his 51-day reign as the World Heavyweight Champion was always a waypoint in one larger story. At WrestleMania 41, Jey became a first-time champion in a surprise over Gunther and his emotional winning years in the making.
However, as viewers know, by June, the championship had already been switched back to Gunther during RAW, and fans are questioning whether this was the wrong move or a genius move by the WWE creative crew.
The sudden defeat has been blasted by critics who accused Jey of not allowing his reign to breathe. Old time supporters retort that no spine was in this plan, and high momentum was taken away from a rising star.
Jey justified himself through two tough defensive matches: match against Seth Rollins by DQ and another successful conflict with Logan Paul. WWE however, could be seen to have treated his reign as a stepping stone to bigger things such as upcoming match between Gunther and Goldberg in July.
Short‑Term Plan or Missed Opportunity?
Insiders confirm that change of title was a pre-planned exercise. WWE planned Jey to finish his reign in 51 days, as Wrestling Observer reports and it would be nothing more than a transitional period following WrestleMania and leading to a premium match between Goldberg and Gunther on Saturday Night Main Event on July 12. On a strategic level, it places WWE in direct competition with All‑In: Texas on the part of AEW.
Though timing is suspicious, WWE authorities say action solidifies Jey as a singles actor who can headline shows, despite not winning a title. His WrestleMania victory gave him more credibility and although the title will be elsewhere, opportunity it gave him is becoming priceless.
