John Cena is continuing his WWE retirement tour relentlessly and – after dethroning 'The American Nightmare' Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 – is set to face CM Punk in the main event of Night of Champions, the event to be held in Saudi Arabia on June 28.
The 'Second City Saint' had asked WWE management several times for the chance to challenge the leader of the 'Cenation' in the last year of his career and Triple H decided to fulfill his wish. Most fans lashed out at the former AEW star, who had heavily criticized the partnership between WWE and Saudi Arabia in the past but agreed to be one of the stars of the show.
Cena and Punk had weird segment
Cena and Punk were featured in a brilliant segment during the June 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, in which the 17-time world champion brutally criticized the veteran from Chicago as 'Mr. TKO'.
According to reports from 'WrestleVotes' in these hours, WWE would have modified that segment at the last minute to make it more credible and natural.
“It’s funny you say that because I heard on Saturday that if you go back and rewatch the segment, you’ll see after about five minutes of him laying there, a referee slides into the ring to check on him. I heard they did that to make it seem less cringy that he was just lying there. So that wasn’t supposed to be the case, but someone in the back said, ‘He can’t just lay there for 10 minutes, send somebody out,’ and that’s what they did” – WrestleVotes revealed.
Cena's parable in the last season of his legendary career has not been linear so far, considering that he has abandoned his iconic babyface status for the moment to become a heel for the first time.
The veteran from Boston understood that it was the right time to shock WWE Universe with this change and has adapted very well to this new context, but everyone assumes that he will return to being a babyface before retiring.
