The last time Roman Reigns was seen on WWE television was the episode of Raw after WrestleMania 41 in April, where he was viciously assaulted by Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Paul Heyman declared his betrayal. Ever since, there has been a lot of speculation in the creative circles of WWE.
WrestleVotes also reported that his name has been mentioned in the internal documentation, which is usually an indication of something in the works prior to a big event. But it seems he won't make his return at SummerSlam. The insiders have hinted that WWE is planning something more spectacular further down the line in the build‑up, as opposed to the two-night August event.
The plot lines are also an indication of new twists. According to commentators, Reigns is ready to target Paul Heyman and the partnership of Seth Rollins over revitalizing the Bloodline rivalry.
The hypothesis is that Roman will exact his vengeance on his betrayers directly and not get involved in the politics of Bloodline. This would establish a high-stakes feud with Rollins and Heyman and it would make the feud interesting given the trauma surrounding the betrayal at WrestleMania.
Direction taking shape
The talk behind the scenes would suggest that WWE is attempting to set out the framework that can see Reigns reassert his spot at the top of the card during the late summer/ early autumn season.
Now that WarGames has been set in stone as part of Survivor Series 2025 in November, and promotional graphics have already been rolled out with Roman in them, there is an increased sense that he will be part of the build to the event. Moreover, his devotion to the next movie Street Fighter will not fully put his WWE plans to waste, but, in fact, WWE appears to plan strategically around his filming schedule.
Promotional materials and merchandise are appearing during this break, suggesting a new “OTC” or alternate personality of Tribal Chief is in the wings. His comeback will be redefined with new nicknames, equipment and marketing.
