Former WWE Women Champion Saraya (formerly Paige) has now admitted that she lied about the reason she failed a WWE wellness policy drug test several years ago. In a light-hearted episode of Never Have I Ever on Denise Salcedo, Saraya remembered how she initially tried to pass the failed test off as pain medication after dental surgery. Later she confessed the true cause of it: cocaine.
This bombshell may seem crazy but it is rather honest. She giggled when she recounted the confession-“I did cocaine, I messed up, I lied, but it is all right, which demonstrates that she is much better off than trying to conceal her mistakes.
Owning It and Moving Forward
What this actually implies is that Saraya is opting to be open rather than ashamed. She does not hide the entire issue under the carpet but she is open about her mistakes of past. She was suspended twice in 2016, first by 30 days and then by 60 days due to the WWE wellness policy, so her confession is not mere talk, it is based on her real past.
After quitting AEW in March, Saraya took a break from wrestling to concentrate on her podcast, memoir, and personal development. This unvarnished moment is in line with picture she has been creating of herself as someone who can claim not only victories but also bumps in the road.
She is not actively seeking a WWE re-entry just yet, but she left a little innuendo during the weekend of Evolution, when she wrote, on social media, question, Is Evolution this weekend? With that said, she also told Orlando Sentinel that she has not negotiated any come-back dialogue and that she needs time to seek herself out of the ring.
After all, it is neither a scandal story nor a story of redemption. It is about a person who did not want to smooth over the ugly things. Saraya is taking responsibility by accepting that she lied and giving the specific reasons why, which is unheard of in world of wrestling.
