Most have been heartened by the two-time Governor of Minnesota returning to WWE and re-assuming the role of a colorful character. However, it has made a controversial twist out of the blue. Minnesota, the former governor and legendary commentator came back to the company in 2024 with a Legends contract, much to the pleasure of the fans.
His visits to the Main Event on Saturday Nights were full of nostalgia because he returned with his trademark charisma to rings. Nevertheless, Ventura's outspokenness, which has always been a characteristic feature of his personality, appears to have aggravated the ancient tensions with WWE management again.
On Saturday Night Main Event in a much awaited steel cage match, in May, Ventura made front pages for the wrong reasons. When commenting on the game, he was very vehement in his criticism of the clause that enabled the competitors to win by leaving the cage door. And that is a load of BS, he replied doubting the integrity of the game. Even that comment was brought to the radar and the backstage comments were divided. Some people thought that Ventura was quite funny with his bluntness whereas others thought it compromised the integrity of the match.
His comment backlash was quick. WWE with its well-scripted storyline and its tenth control over the product moved swiftly in order to reduce the airtime given to Ventura. Ventura made a very brief guest appearance during the opening sequence of the July episode of Saturday Night's Main Event and his typical act as a commentator was largely diminished. Obviously, WWE did not take his recent temper tantrums too well.
A Shaken Legacy?
The future of Las Venturas' relationship with WWE came into question with this new controversy. The reconciliation initiated went on to become a slow-paced dance between the un-edited, glitzy approach taken by Ventura with the constrained environment embraced by WWE.
Is this the termination of his comeback or just a road hitch still remains to be seen. Fans are left with the wondering that will the company ever completely accept Venturas raw and uncensored honesty or will they continue to keep him at arms length in the future.
