Vince Russo’s never been shy with his opinions, and at 64, he’s still swinging hard. His latest target? CM Punk. On The Wrestling Outlaws, Russo said flat out that Punk’s rebel act feels hollow and the biggest problem is simple: the guy keeps losing.
He even threw out a comparison that’ll sting for CM fans. Back in the day, Stone Cold Steve Austin didn’t just play rebel he won. Russo’s point is if Punk wants to be the anti-authority voice in WWE, he can’t be taking L’s every other week. Otherwise, why should anyone buy image?
Inject real heat and make Punk fight for it
Russo’s fix isn’t just “book him stronger.” He wants a story that digs at Punk’s core. His idea? Have someone like Drew McIntyre get in his face and call him out for going soft. Make it personal. Push him until crowd sees old fire again. Then give him a moment maybe a sit-down promo where he admits he’s lost his edge and is ready to take it back.
It’s not about shock value for sake of headlines. It’s about showing a crack in the armor, then letting him patch it up in most Punk way possible through grit, attitude, and big match wins.
The truth is, CM’s still got the spark. His return pop proved fans want him around. But right now, character feels safe, almost too comfortable. That’s opposite of what made him great. The rebel fans remember didn’t care if the crowd loved or hated him he cared about making his point and proving it in the ring.
