In the Raw episode of July 15th, Naomi took part in a Fatal-4-Way-Elimination match to decree Becky Lynch's new WWE Raw Women's Championship contender which also included Alexa Bliss, Carmella and Natalya, but was eliminated for second from Natalya.

In the Main Event episode of July 26th, Naomi defeated Sarah Logan. In February 2017, Naomi won the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship at the Elimination Chamber event, becoming the first African-American woman to capture the title.

After vacating the title due to injury, Naomi regained the championship two months later at WrestleMania 33, and became the inaugural winner of the WrestleMania Women's Battle Royal at the following year's WrestleMania. Speaking with So Catch by Hal, she explained who made her glowing title belt: “I did.

I was given the OK to do it. I had the idea and then I took it somewhere to get done. We tried a couple of times with the company but they just couldn’t get it to, we tried all kinds of stuff, we tried glow paint, we tried a few different options.

Then finally I just took it into my own hands to get it to glow, but it was short lived and I hope one day, when I hold the championship again, it’ll come back and it’ll be better, I’ll make it better. I got some ideas and ways to make it look more seamless and flawless”.
